Offshore Renewable Energy Committee

The significant activity in the offshore renewable energy sector presents an opportunity for MTS and its membership to contribute and participate. This committee will, among other activities facilitate, important connections between the offshore renewable and MTS communities. Through the action of this committee the MTS community will be engaged in this exciting and developing space.

Mission

The Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Committee is established to promote the use of marine technology innovation and research in the rapidly growing offshore renewable energy community. To do this the committee will provide a forum for communication and networking events that facilitate the exchange of information, including discussion of relevant marine technology applications, training and education opportunities.

MTS-RWSC Joint Technology Committee

The MTS ORE Committee is meeting together with the Regional Wildlife Science Collaborative for Offshore Wind (RWSC) Technology Subcommittee as the “RWSC-MTS Joint Technology Committee”. The MTS-RWSC Joint Committee seeks to explore opportunities, share insights, and foster collaboration within the industry. Members include representatives from government agencies, environmental nonprofits, offshore wind companies, other private entities, technology experts and providers, and the research community. Mini TechSurge Report: Advancing Collaboration and Inspiring Innovation for Offshore Wind Monitoring and Mitigation

The MTS Offshore Renewable Energy Committee and RWSC Technology Subcommittee are pleased to release a report from the Mini TechSurge and Tech Café held on July 18, 2024. This event, held at the 2024 State of the Science Workshop on Offshore Wind Energy, Wildlife, and Fisheries—hosted by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) at Stony Brook University—convened a diverse group of experts to identify key priorities, funding opportunities, and practical solutions for offshore wind monitoring and mitigation. Collaborative Whale Detection Technology Evaluation Workshop Session

The joint RWSC-MTS Technology Committee, which includes members from government, the private sector, and environmental nonprofits, in partnership with two US Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories (the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory), with support from the DOE and contributions from NOAA, BOEM, and Turn Forward, are hosting a series of virtual workshops aimed at assessing the state of the science regarding technologies, tools, and methods for monitoring marine mammals around offshore wind construction activities.

The three workshop sessions were held on April 18, June 26, and November 19, 2024, respectively. The third workshop report is coming soon.
