The position enhances communications and membership with universities and university-affiliated professionals and seeks out opportunities to engage with educators, to expand core MTS educational programs (e.g., student scholarships, summer workshops, microcredentials), and to develop and retain Student Sections. Vice President of Government and Public AffairsDescription: The Vice President of Government and Public Affairs pursues opportunities for the Society to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with news media, governmental entities, military services, and other relevant organizations with an interest in marine affairs, technology, and innovation. This position also oversees policy and reviews public releases by Society officers and spokespersons on behalf of MTS as related to government and public affairs. This position works with contractors and volunteers as assigned to engage with legislators on behalf of MTS interests, positioning MTS members as thought leaders and industry experts. Vice President of MATEDescription: The Vice President of MATE supports the growth and impact of the three pillars of MATE, including the MATE ROV Competition, MATE ROV Academy, and the SeaMATE Store. In this capacity, this position represents the voice of the next generation of marine technologists, ensuring that workforce development through hands-on STEM learning remains central to MTS’s mission. This position facilitates partnerships with institutions, industry sponsors, and regional MATE hubs, provides insights into emerging talent pipelines and trends, and advocates for initiatives that strengthen engagement pathways for MATE participants, mentors, alumni, and supporters within the MTS ecosystem.
