Join Sofar Ocean for a webinar at the intersection of cutting-edge ocean tech and coral reef conservation. The session will feature Caesar Hjerten (Community Manager, Aqualink), Vince Smith (Founder of Impact, Whalefall), Sanne Tuijten (Science Officer, Reef Renewal Bonaire), and Zack Johnson (Developer Relations Lead, Sofar).

Attendees will learn:

  • How Whalefall and Reef Renewal Bonaire work with students to deploy Sofar Spotter Platforms at key reef sites, measure changes in subsurface temperature, and enhance coral restoration efforts.

  • How Aqualink maintains a global coral reef monitoring dashboard and collaborates with researchers to gather and visualize critical ocean data.

Vincent Smith, Founder of Impact, Whalefall

Vincent Smith is a biodiversity and ecosystem adaptation professional with over 20 years of experiential education curriculum design, instructor level training, and project design experience advancing sustainability, ocean exploration, open-source networked community science, and advocacy for the health and protection of the earth's biodiversity and ecosystem balance.

Sanne Tuijten, Science Officer, Reef Renewal Bonaire

 After starting to dive at age 12, Sanne aspired to be a marine biologist. She earned her M.Sc. in Marine Biology from the University of Southampton and joined Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire in 2020. She now applies her scientific knowledge to support the organization’s mission and guide best practices and strategies.

Caesar Hjerten, Community Manager, Aqualink

Caesar Hjerten cultivates partnerships and fosters community engagement around ocean conservation and coral reef monitoring initiatives. A Swedish-born Business graduate from the University of Hawaii and former collegiate soccer player, he brings his passion for protecting the ocean into every aspect of his work at Aqualink.

Moderator: 

Zack Johnson, Developer Relations Lead, Sofar Ocean

Zack Johnson leads developer relations at Bristlemouth, an open communication standard for marine hardware. At Sofar Ocean Technologies, he heads field operations and works as a sales and support engineer. His career bridges open-source hardware, citizen science, and ocean technology.
