Join us at OCEANS 2025 Brest for a dynamic flagship event designed to inspire and support the next generation of leaders in marine technology and ocean engineering. This engaging two-part session begins with a panel discussion featuring professionals from academia, private industry, government, and the entrepreneurial sector. Panelists will share personal stories, career insights, and practical advice for early-career professionals and young researchers navigating diverse pathways in ocean science and engineering.

Following the panel, participants will take part in a speed mentoring session—an opportunity to connect one-on-one with panelists and other experienced professionals to ask questions, seek guidance, and build lasting connections.

Discussion Themes Include:

  • Career Pathways: Comparing roles, challenges, and expectations across academia, industry, government, and entrepreneurship.
  • Skills & Competencies: Highlighting the technical and interpersonal skills essential for each path.
  • Opportunities & Challenges: Exploring trends, funding, and emerging technologies shaping the future of the field.
  • Mentorship & Networking: The value of professional societies like IEEE OES and MTS in building community and advancing careers.
  • Work-Life Balance & Adaptability: Navigating transitions, interdisciplinary collaboration, and sustainable career choices.
