MTS Committee to host webinar on technoeconomic considerations for deep-sea mining

The MTS Marine Mineral Resource Committee will be hosting a webinar on April 18, 2023 with special guest, Dr. Rahul Sharma, a Chief Scientist for the National Institute of Oceanography and Consultant for Deep-sea Mining.

Topic Summary

In the current era, a remarkable surge has been witnessed in the development of cutting-edge technologies to mine the abundantly available deep-sea mineral resources. This increase in tech development is accompanied by a parallel effort to implement a balanced and secure approach through the framing of robust regulations. The prospect of deep-sea minerals as a viable substitute for critical industrial and domestic materials, as well as a source for transitioning to green energy, has caught the attention of the world.

In this presentation we will delve into the various techno-economic considerations that are essential for deep-sea mining. We will explore ways to optimize the mining rate, and evaluate the multitude of associated parameters.
