MTS - RWSC Whale Detection Technology Evaluation Virtual Workshop Series | Session 1

The joint RWSC-MTS Technology Committee, which includes members from government, the private sector, and environmental nonprofits, in partnership with two US Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories (the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory), with support from the DOE and contributions from NOAA, BOEM, and Turn Forward, will host a series of workshops aimed at assessing the state of the science regarding technologies, tools, and methods for monitoring marine mammals around offshore wind construction activities.

An agenda for session 1 is now available. The goals of this session are to develop a shared understanding of existing technologies or classes of technologies for monitoring baleen whales around sound-producing offshore wind construction activities and their state of validation and efficacy, and to discuss the pros and cons of potential performance metrics by which to evaluate technology efficacy.

The first virtual workshop in this series on Thursday, April 18, from 1-4pm ET. Registration is required.
