MTS Member Webinar: Exploring, Monitoring, and Protecting Coral Reefs with Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary and Sofar Ocean

Flyer showcasing headshots of the speaker.

Description:

Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (FGBNMS) is the only sanctuary site located in the Gulf of Mexico. Composed of 17 colorful reefs and banks created by underlying salt domes, it is home to both shallow water coral reefs and deeper mesophotic reefs populated by black coral, octocoral and algal nodules.

The team at FGBNMS conducts research and collects data at and below the surface to help understand and better protect this unique ecosystem. Ryan Hannum is a research specialist focused on long term monitoring at FGBNMS.

Join Ryan and Sofar Ocean's Tosca Lichtenheld for a conversation about:
  • FGBNMS' long-term monitoring program, including water quality monitoring projects
  • Technology and tools, like Sofar's Spotter Platform, used to capture new data and make it available to researchers and to the public
  • Ryan's experiences diving the reefs
A Q&A session will follow the presentation. Don't miss this unique opportunity to explore the wonders of the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary and gain insights into the crucial research efforts shaping its conservation. Reserve your spot now!
