By connecting industry leaders, innovators, businesses, scientists, and government agencies, the Ocean Enterprise Initiative fosters cross-sector collaboration to generate actionable insights and strategic partnerships within the global Ocean Enterprise.

Our signature Dialogues with Industry series is a global forum connecting Ocean Information Value Chain stakeholders to explore new opportunities and address shared challenges.

The second session of the Dialogues with Industry series will focus on how advancements in sensors and platforms can transform ocean observing by reducing costs, broadening access, and increasing the utility of collected data. Dialogue 2 will examine practical strategies companies are using to achieve one- to two-order-of-magnitude cost reductions, explore whether accessible technologies always imply performance trade-offs, and assess where the market is most ready for disruptive change.

Participants will discuss shifts in business models, such as moving from ownership to rental, and explore parallels to other sectors like small aerial drones. The dialogue will also highlight how emerging companies are addressing barriers, ranging from repair and calibration challenges to knowledge transfer gaps, and how decentralized approaches and fit-for-purpose sensors may make ocean observation systems more accessible. This session aims to pinpoint opportunities for innovation, and define what makes these technologies market-ready.
