MTS Member Spotlight: Fugro

Fugro is the world's leading Geo-data specialist. We map, model, and monitor the natural and built environment, unlocking insights from Geo-data to support the energy transition, sustainable infrastructure, and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Our focus on ocean, coastal, and inland environments aligns with MTS's goal of advancing marine technology awareness and applications.

A Proud Member of MTS

As a member of MTS, we actively contribute to industry advocacy, education, and innovation. We participate in key events such as the MTS/IEEE OCEANS Conference and TechSurge events and collaborate across sectors through initiatives like the MTS/GOOS/NOAA Dialogues with Industry. We write for an learn from articles in MTS publications, including the MTS Journal, and we support scholarship activities through events like the annual Houston Clay Shoot.

Engaging with MTS members has opened unique opportunities for Fugro. For example, in 2021, David Millar, Government Accounts Manager for the Americas, authored a chapter about seafloor mapping in "Preparing the Workforce for a New Blue Economy," a book edited by MTS-affiliated experts Liesl Hotaling and Rick Spinrad.

Many of the technology and workforce predictions made in that book have already become a reality, thanks in large part to MTS member organizations.

Driving Innovation

Fugro is at the forefront of these technology advancements. We're focused on building a more diverse workforce through remote operations, ensuring safer and more sustainable data acquisition with autonomous platforms, and delivering faster data and robust analysis powered by AI and cloud processing.

For instance, we recently celebrated 10 years and 1 million hours of work accomplished through out remote operating centers. This milestone is complemented by our pioneering autonomous solutions, including the world's first fully remote subsea inspection system, which utilizes the Fugro Blue Essence® uncrewed surface vessel and the Fugro Blue Volta® electric ROV. Our advancements also extend to aerial technology with the second-generation Rapid Airborne Multibeam Mapping System (RAMMS 2.0), a drone-capable solutions that offers industry leading coastal mapping capabilities.

Shaping the Future Together

These Fugro innovations represent just a glimpse of the digital transformation we are helping to lead. We're proud to be part of the MTS community and look forward to working together on future innovations that expand our knowledge of ocean science and address critical challenges related to energy, infrastructure, and climate change.
