On May 7th, the Eckerd MTS Student Section hosted an event titled MTS: Your Career in Ocean Science, featuring a brilliant presentation by Samantha D'Angelo, a recent graduate from the University of South Florida St. Petersburg Campus. She received her Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and completed a minor in Environmental Science and Policy. This coming fall, Sam will be pursuing her Master's degree in Physical Oceanography at the USF College of Marine Science.
The event explored career pathways post-graduation to educate Eckerd Student Section members on various avenues to continue their learning. D’Angelo’s expertise in buoy construction and presentation skills are assets she brought to the MTS Buoy Workshop in Sequim, Washington at the end of May. Another aim of this event was to demonstrate how MTS can be influential for rising professionals in the Marine Science field.
Additionally, Bianca Hernandez, a career advisor and instructor from the Eckerd Career Services department, hosted an open discussion with event participants. The discussion focused on valuable skills needed for a successful career in marine science and strategies to be productive during networking events.
