Florida Section Meets at FGCU Water School

The first MTS Florida Section meeting held in years took place recently at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Water School in Ft Myers, Florida.

MTS members from industry and academia met to socialize, discuss future plans for the Florida Section and to tour the newly opened Water School on the FGCU campus. Water School Dean, Dr. Greg Tolly gave a warm welcome to the group, then round-the-room introductions were conducted. Dr. Felix Jose, Department Chair, conducted tours of Water School labs and office spaces.

About FGCU Water School
On World Water Day in 2019, Water School was formed to address some of the region's most urgent environmental problems, including the frequent occurrence of red tide and blue green algae and their effects on fish, benthic habitats, and public health. Once Hurricane Ian made landfall in Southwest Florida, scientists from the water school were among the first to survey the damage that had been done to beaches, barrier islands, and a variety of coastal habitats.
