The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Strategic Technology Office (STO) will host a Competitors Day event for its Forecasting Floats in Turbulence (FFT) challenge to provide information to potential competitors on the objectives of the DARPA FFT challenge. The DARPA FFT challenge Competitors Day will be hosted as a virtual webinar on October 7th 2021, from 2:00 to 3:00pm EDT. Advance registration is required.
The goals of the FFT challenge Competitors Day are:
- To introduce the science and technology community to the DARPA Ocean of Things program vision and goals; and
- To provide preliminary information about the FFT challenge, with the primary focus on inspiring and attracting potential self-funded competitors.
- CHALLENGE Objective and description: The goal of the DARPA Forecasting Floats in Turbulence challenge is to discover innovative solutions to incorporate Lagrangian drifters into ocean models and forecasts. The challenge is designed to compel competitors to consider the effects of turbulence and sub-mesoscale ocean features not usually found in today’s ocean models. The DARPA FFT challenge seeks to advance methodologies used for persistent, large-scale, low-cost sensor platforms.
DARPA is hosting Competitors Day to communicate the vision and timeline of the challenge, to provide information about how potential competitors may participate in the FFT challenge, and to provide a venue for the exchange of technical and operational contexts.
Competitors Day is open only to registered potential competitors. To maximize the pool of innovative concepts, DARPA strongly encourages participation in this event and by non-traditional performers, including small businesses, academic and research institutions, and foreign entities.
