The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to participate in the new study on advising the National Science Foundation’s Division of Ocean Sciences (NSF OCE) on forward-looking approaches to guide investments in research, infrastructure, and workforce development. The committee will develop a compelling research and infrastructure strategy to advance understanding of the ocean’s role in the Earth system and the sustainable blue economy. The report will recommend ways that NSF OCE could develop the capacity to respond nimbly as priorities change and new opportunities emerge over the 2025-2035 decade.
Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will be looking to build a committee of volunteer experts in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers for any publications resulting from the activity.
This study will be carried out by a committee of approximately 20 volunteer experts with broad knowledge of the ocean sciences, engineering, and technology, including subfields such as:
